Zingerman’s Deli

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Amazing, Hip Delicatessen, Great Cheeses, Meats, Sundrys, etc… They also have a Bakehouse, Creamery & Restaurants within the area. Best sevice in the buisness. This place is a must-see if you’re in Ann Arbor with a little extra time!

Their website has a ton of info…check it out. (See link above).

Parton’s Pizza

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Really great pizza buffet. I recommend the hamburger and mushroom.

Magic House

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

The Magic House is one of the premier kids spots in St. Louis. It’s the city’s Children’s Museum. Has tons of activities and exhibits like the very cool electrostatic ball that makes your hair stand on end. It can get crowded…it’s that popular!

Dinosaur Valley State Park

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Cool place to see real dinosaur tracks. They’re not the big T-rex tracs, but you definitely see the tracks in the river bed. There is also a great swimming hole in the river here. The dino models are pretty cool for the kids. Plenty of hiking, biking, and picnicing!

Johnson’s Shut-ins

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

The shut-ins are a really cool area of the Black River where incredible rock formations form a virtual bridge across the river. “Water-borne sand and gravel cut deeply even into this erosion-resistant rock, swirling, churning_carving potholes, chutes and spectacular canyonlike gorges,” is the description for the website. A favorite swimming spot, the water can be crystal clear and 15 feet deep or more in the swimming hole. Jumping from the 30 ft high cliff is banned (and not to mention dangerous)…additionally, the Taum Sauk Resevoir broke in December of 2005, flooding much of the valley. The park is undergoing a massive recovery, so swimming is out for a while, but you can still hike. I recommend you check the Recovery Info site.

Al’s Hamburgers

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

If you are looking for a place to get a really great burger. You gotta check it out. Just the way a burger should be nice and greasy. Plus the service is really quick for those trying to eat on their hour lunch break from the office.

Pate Museum of Transportation

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Classic car lovers will love this place. Also a cool place where kids can do some running and climbing AND the price is right FREE.

Elephant Rocks State Park

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Elephant rocks is basically a great hiking trail with some good scenery. The rocks really do look like a line of huge elephants walking trunk to tail. The park is not huge, but the hike is nice for the family. A pretty good day trip from St. Louis if you enjoy a good drive.
Located on Highway 53 outside of Pilot Knob.

Charlie’s Drive In

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Local favorite in Wood River, IL. Old fashioned drive in - waitress actually comes out to your car (no intercoms here). They serve really great hamburgers and fries. They are best known (and loved) for their homemade rootbeer. They bring it to you in a frosty glass mug. Great on a really hot St Louis summer day (only 20 minute drive from downtown St Louis). You can order a gallon of the rootbeer to go and make the VERY best rootbeer floats at home for the whole family for less than $10 (I recommend using Breyers vanilla ice cream).

Lookout 49

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

New restaurant in Gulfport, MS. My husband and I tried it during a recent visit to the area and were really impressed. They primarily serve seafood/poboys. Probably the best seafood gumbo either of us have ever had (I grew up in South MS and have had lots of gumbo). Really reasonable prices and very casual atmosphere.
